Pocket IME 2.0 can manage up to eight dictionaries. The following table lists the dictionary types that are supported in Pocket IME.

| User dictionary | Registers and stores user-defined words. |
| Standard system dictionary | Contains words and grammatical data. This dictionary must be included in an OS design with Pocket IME 2.0 support. Pocket IME 2.0 can only handle one standard system dictionary. |
| Add-on system dictionary | Contains words only. The add-on system dictionary is optional. You can create up to six add-on dictionaries and add them to an OS design. |
Windows CE provides one standard system dictionary, imejpps.dic, and two add-on user dictionaries, imejppm.dic, and imejppn.dic.
