Windows CE provides three functions for retrieving data about a given file or directory, as shown in the following table.

| GetFileAttributes | Returns the flag settings for the file attributes, including archive, compression, encryption, and read/write status. |
| GetFileSize | Returns the file size. |
| GetFileInformationByHandle | Returns the same information as the GetFileTime, GetFileAttributes, and GetFileSize functions, as well as other information such as the creation time and ___location of the file pointer. It does not return the file object identifier. |
