My Debugging SQL Server Was Disabled Because No User Is Logged On to NT 4.0

If SQL Server and Visual C++ Enterprise Edition are installed on the same machine, the Visual C++ setup will register remote automation to run as the currently logged on user. If no user is logged onto the server, then access through Remote Automation is disabled.

To re-enable remote automation

  1. Run the DCOMCNFG.EXE utility, which is shipped as part of Windows NT 4.0.

Note   The DCOMCNFG.EXE application is in the \winnt\system32 folder as part of the Windows NT 4.0 installation.

  1. From the Applications list select Remote Automation CLSID_STubMarshaler.

  2. Click Properties.

  3. Choose the Identity tab.

  4. Choose the user account that will run Remote Automation. In most cases you should be able to use The launching user.
