So most folks know that Hyper-V contains the capacity to allow backups of Virtual Machines while they are running. System Center Data Protection Manager will eventually have the capability to conduct this process. However, a straight file copy backup will not work for consistently backing up the VM's. What will work is a Windows Server 2008 full computer backup. It will backup the entire Hyper-V server, including VM's. You will need a disk attached to the machine in order to facilitate the backup (i.e., a USB Hard Drive).
