The Azure portal and Query Store show execution statistics, such as CPU metrics, for completed queries. If you are experiencing a current high CPU incident that might be caused by one or more ongoing long-running queries, identify currently running queries with Transact-SQL.

Common causes of new and unusual high CPU utilization are:

• New queries in the workload that use a large amount of CPU.
• An increase in the frequency of regularly running queries.
• Query plan regression, including regression due to parameter sensitive plan (PSP) problems, resulting in one or more queries consuming more CPU.
• A significant increase in compilation or recompilation of query plans.
